Gochugaru (고추가루) are Korean red pepper flakes that are another very common ingredient used widely across many Korean recipes to add spiciness to the dish. As with most things there are different types of Gochugaru available ranging from mild to hot and from fine to course.

The type of Gochugaru used across most of my recipes is the spicy & coarse type (pictured above).
Although not found in UK supermarkets (as far as I know!) you are almost certain to find this stocked in most Korean/Chinese supermarkets within the UK.
£3 – £4 for 200g
£4 – £5 for 450g
It can be stored in a cool dry cupboard before opening and then in the freezer once opened.
